Captain Weird

The amazing Charlie Callas in a classic bit of tomfoolery. Charlie reminds me of a live Don Martin character. He cured an early stuttering problem by practicing Shakespeare and started out as a drummer. His fellow musicians talked him into becoming a comic, and he became a hit on “Laugh-In” and “The Flip Wilson Show” in the 60s and 70s. You can still catch Charlie’s nightclub act in Vegas and he’s a fixture on the Jerry Lewis Telethon. And yes, that’s Jerry Lewis cracking up in the background of the main clip. They were both in “The Big Mouth” (1967) together.
